Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve
others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various
forms. 1 Peter 4:10
You have a gift. You were given a special gift from God through his
Spirit, for you to use in serving the Lord. You may not have realized
that you have a gift but God’s word is very clear about this.
Everyone has been given a gift. Read 1 Corinthians 12:1-11! It
doesn't get much plainer than that.
The question is: Are you serving the Lord? And are you using the
gifts He gave you? I don’t want to be too simplistic here but I have
a feeling many of you do not have a clear understanding of what I
mean by “serving the Lord”. First of all, let’s look at what does not
qualify as serving the Lord. You are not serving the Lord by
attending a worship service or a Bible study. Both of these activities
are important and we all should be involved in them but
attendance and service are two entirely different things. Now serving
God in the worship service can include lots of things like: leading
worship, singing in the choir, reading scripture, playing an
instrument, preaching a sermon, controlling the sound system, taking
the offering or greeting the people, etc. And you would be serving
the Lord if you taught the Bible Study, took care of attendance
records, became a small group leader or outreach leader. In each of
those situations you are serving!
Having shared all of that, let me ask again: Are you serving the Lord?
I might need to tell you at this point that it does not matter if you
know what your gift is! That is not important. What is important is
that you serve Him. You will discover your gift much more quickly if
you will begin serving than if you do not!
There are lots of things you could do to serve God in this church or
one of our many ministries. The only question is: When do you want
to start?
Just do it!!....................Bro. Sherman
